The research is carried out using in-house research equipment from the Sylur vessel. The operator of the multi-purpose research vessel Sylur is Miliana Shipmanagement Ltd, based in Nicosia, Cyprus, part of the ORLEN Petrobaltic S.A. Capital Group. Technical management under the ISM Code is conducted by Technical Ship Management.
The vessel has been used since 2016 by ORLEN Petrobaltic S.A. mainly to conduct hydrographic, geophysical, geotechnical and geological-engineering surveys as related to the development of hydrocarbon deposits as well as the maintenance of production infrastructure in the Baltic Sea. Miliana Shipmanagement Ltd. employs a team of 17 qualified and authorised specialists with multiple years of experience gained from carrying out research for ORLEN Petrobaltic S.A.
Detailed characteristics of the works carried out:
Comprehensive surveys of the seabed with physical investigations of the earth's crust to a depth of several tens of metres below the seabed to determine the strength parameters of the soil for technical expertise prior to any foundation of drilling platforms, planned construction and operation of hydrotechnical facilities or anchoring of other heavy structures in the seabed, such as bottom plates, anchors of towing chains and laying pipelines.
Locating, surveying, documenting the course and natural changes in the location of pipelines, cables, underwater infrastructure on the seabed and what are referred to as navigation obstacles left behind (e.g. unexploded ordnance).
Physical surveys of the condition of the seabed surface, soil sampling for geochemical or contaminant analysis.
Visual inspection and condition assessment of underwater objects by ROV with digital documentation. Operation and navigational security when towing platforms and other vessels.
In order to perform the aforementioned works, the following are carried out:
- bathymetric surveys using a RESON SeaBat 7101 SV multibeam echosounder,
- bottom cleanliness surveys using the Edge Tech 4200 sonar,
- seismoacoustic profiling of geological layers at various resolutions with Boomer, Sparker equipment from Applied Acoustics,
- marine surveying based on a DGPS navigation system with the Easytrak Nexus underwater navigation system from Applied Acoustics,
- drilling of full-core geological and engineering boreholes with the H4-1H drill rig,
- soil sampling with a VKG-6 or VKG-3 vibro-probe,
- measurement of geotechnical soil parameters with a CPT static probe and CPTU with a ROSON penetrometer,
- bottom sediment sampling with a Van Veen scoop,
- visual inspection of any objects by ROVs of the Phantom type
In the field of geotechnical surveys, Miliana Shipmanagement Ltd. cooperates with ORLEN Petrobaltic S.A. and the PRS-certified GEOSTAB Research Company, which performs specialised laboratory tests of soils in accordance with the obligatory standards to obtain the necessary expert opinions and reports.
